Evidence-Based Dual Task Training to Address Cognition and Balance- Hurst, TX
July 15, 2023 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm America/Dallas
REGISTRATION CLOSES JULY 10, 2023
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Older people, as well as those with a brain lesion or a degenerative movement disease, such as Parkinson disease, are often noted to have impaired balance control. They are required to control their balance simultaneously while performing other non-balance-related tasks and needed to pay continuous attention to both tasks. These dual tasks require a high degree of attention as well as other cognitive skills. This course will review evidence for dual task training for improved outcomes and application via collaborative rehabilitation treatments. Such results have been shown to be particularly effective with cognition and gait as well as with cognition and balance. Further supporting evidence will be shared regarding the connection with cognitive and motor learning and then research will be cited to support cognitive benefits with aerobic training. Case studies will be shared to demonstrate the application of dual task training for improved clinical outcomes.
