Changing Dementia Care in the Eyes of the World

Open to all OT, PT, SLPs that would like to attend – (No approved CEUs will be offered – instead a course completion certificate will be provided)

The self-study session must be completed prior to the course. Once registered the self study will be set up through the LMS – information will be sent via email once this is done.

Self-Study Access through the LMS – Rise Levels 1-4 (Once registered these will be assigned in your training profile) (2 hours)
• Applying the remaining Abilities of Individuals with dementia Early Stage
• Applying the remaining Abilities of Individuals with dementia Middle Stage
• Applying the remaining Abilities of Individuals with dementia Late Stage
• Applying the remaining Abilities of Individuals with dementia End Stage
Each session will take approximately 30 minutes to complete – You must pass the posttest and complete the evaluation to be considered complete.

The live course will begin at 9:00am registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30am.

Course Overview: During this course, participants will engage in small group activities, discussion, lecture, and case studies to examine the impact of neurocognitive impairments on the rehabilitation process and daily functioning of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Participants will identify the remaining abilities and challenges of persons in all stages of dementia and identify effective stage-specific intervention approaches. Participants will learn effective techniques for managing the behavioral and communication challenges common to each stage of dementia.

After Lunch more in depth instruction for OT/OTA (PT & SLP are welcome to stay for the OT portion)

OT Breakout Course Overview: During this workshop participants will engage in small group activities, discussion, lecture, and case studies as they identify the remaining abilities and challenges of patients in all stages of dementia. Participants will receive specific training on the use of the major elements of the Abilities Care Approach(R) including life storyboards, adapted care approaches, sensory strategies, and activity prescriptions in order to create effective functional maintenance programs (FMPs) for clients with dementia who live in long-term care communities. Interactive activities throughout the workshop provide opportunities to practice the use of skilled language and documentation associated with the Abilities Care Approach.
