Wound Care and Modalities - Arizona

Description: This 2 hour course is intended to provide evidence based and up to date information on chronic wound healing for therapy skilled services using Physical Agent Modalities in conjunction with Standard Wound Care. Lecture and lab formats are appropriate for PT/PTA and OT/OTA participants

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify risk factors and causes associated with wound development.
  2. Understand Standard Wound Care, types of wounds, infection vs inflammation.
  3. Understand types of wounds appropriate for use of PAMs according to Medicare guidelines, billing and CPT code use.
  4. Develop goals and POC best practice for wound care with PAMs.
  5. Demonstrate correct application, set up and parameters for wound healing using Electrical Stimulation, Diathermy and Ultrasound, including contraindications.
  6. Gather information to promote IDT approach to wound care programming.

2:00pm-3:00pm
Wound prevalence and cost, risk factors, consequences; Identify phases of tissue healing and types of wounds; Identify signs of infection vs inflammation, normal vs abnormal healing; Evaluation and goal writing best practice

3:00pm – 4:00pm
Treatment methods and selection of PAMs for wounds; IDT programming; Set up of PAMs, documentation and billing practices; Infection control with modalities and wounds; Contraindications associated with PAMs.
